Children must be five years old by September 1 in order to enter kindergarten. This is a change for ACS that the Board approved. This date aligns ACS with the state mandated age. The Kindergarten Readiness ACT, signed into law in 2010, changed the entry date to September 1.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) provides an educational opportunity for children who turn five years old in the fall, specifically from September 1 to Dec 1. TK classes have been available in public education for several years. TK and kindergarten are offered in the same classroom.
TK has been described as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten. TK gives students a head start that will help provide students with a strong foundation for success in elementary classes. TK offers students a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
